CLOUD

The sun has just sunk in the west end. There is no orange beam in the sky because clouds cover the whole earth. The soggy soil indicates that rain has just fell down from the sky that cold afternoon.

An incoming call ended up my daydream time. It is a calling that I waited a few minutes ago.

“Hello, Sunny... how is the result? Are you accepted?” I speak quickly. But there is no voice from another side. I hope it is not a bad signal since she did not reply my message.

“Hello Sunny... are you there?”

“Ummmm... I....I.....” She answered jittery and it’s gotten me worried. “I think we should pack our stuff sooner.”

“Ok.. I guess it is as good news.”

“Of course….I’ll come to your house tomorrow.” She ended up our conversation.

It’s getting darker outside. The rain has stopped just then the drizzle left instead. I stared out the window. There is no moon or stars on the sky. It is so quiet that I can hear the wind run across the green leaves.

Thanks God, You really hear our wishes. Sunny and I, we hope to be accepted in the same university. We had been growing up together since we were born eighteen years ago.

 We spent our childhood in this small city. Having the same school since our first class in kindergarten until we graduated from senior high school. It is so glad that we get the same university. Even we are not taking the same major, but it will be very happy if we always being with our close friend.

            Sunny, like her name, is a beautiful girl with a warm smile. She also has a charming face that will make you always happy whenever you with. There is no word ‘sad’ in her mind, since she always looks so happy and hectic. She enjoys even in the worst condition.

            But, I think today I meet another Sunny. She sits on my bed with a gloomy face. It is another side of Sunny that I have never seen before.

            “What’s the matter?” I had asked her for more than three times but she still kept silent. “What’s going on, Sunny?” I sit beside and hug her. But she starts to cry in a sudden.

            “I can’t go from this place.” She said feebly.

            “What do you mean? I know it is difficult to leave this place, but somehow we should.”

            “Kayla, that’s not what I mean.” She added.

            “So?” I asked curiously, following her stare.

            “My father asks me to stay here. He said that he don’t have much money if I continuing my study this year. Besides, my brother needs much money in his first year at senior high school.” Sunny dropped her head, concealing her face behind the falling hair.

I sat frozen in my seat and stare out of the window blankly. There is no sound exept the breezy wind outside.

            It is the same situation like the night before. A cold night is without moon or stars on the sky. The clouds were dense and opaque, I thought it’s gonna be rain. But it’s not the same feeling like yesterday.

Everything changes quickly. Life beats me up unexpectedly. All my happy thought became so miserable, giving the best sorrow makes me trembling. I don’t know how the life would goes. When I feel that everything had goes on it way, suddenly it changed drastically.

Sunny and I had planned everything well, as detail as we can. We will go on the same university, shared the same room, going somewhere on the weekend, and go home few times. But now, it means nothing since it changes just in one shot.

            I packed up all my stuff alone unwillingly. Taking a deep breath and wondering how to spend my whole day without my best friend since I had accustomed with. And all this sorrow is just like an intermezzo, because sometime we have to feel the pain.
